Scale Replicas EMD filters

Hey all, this may be my first post, not sure.. Lurked here for information for some time.

I was looking at detailing my EMD SD45 SD45-2 and SD40.. with air filters..

My question is I see "Salem" style air filters on all photos, but on the SD45's there is what appears to be a "Prime" filter with them??Can enyone confirm that both would have been used?

If not, where were the "Prime" filters used? the packaging says they are used on EMD units, but it wasn't specific.

Search for Salem 818 and 824 filters. I’m not familiar with a prime filter although , I’ve probably seen and serviced them.

Also, if more than one filter is used are they installed in series? and would it matter which one was installed where? like larger filter to the front smaller to the rear?

The 818 and the 824 are used together the 824 is the final filer closest to the cab. The 818 is closer to the number 2 ( conductor side) main reservoir. I cant see we’ll enough to tell what the prime filter looks like in the link. I will say that the 818 and 824 are used on 26l air brake. The older systems like the 24 RL and 6 BL had different equipment.  The catalog page I posted is for the SD45 with 26 L air brake.

I see the part now, it actually looks like both the 818 and 824 are represented. The smaller one (818) goes toward the rear , then larger one goes forward.

I am modeling the 70's Clinchfield equipment. Just trying to get my information right before I start gluing stuff in place.

Remember that these valves were used on 26 air brake . Depending on the age of the locomotive it could have a variety of brakes. The 70s were complex.

Yep, however the filters are always in quite a bit of shadow. so very hard to see exact position of filters. from looking at other prototype photos ive learned they run filters on both lines. sometime running the larger filter on both lines, my guess is the shop was out of the smaller filter and elected to use the larger on both, but not sure.
