I've been beating my head against a wall trying to design a movable(in house shopping because i need a shop for my drag truck) layout. This really helped!

THANK YOU for posting this...

I had just finalized my layout plan that was near to scale for some locations in a 40' by 40' space and started bench work when we moved to a new house - slightly smaller with a finished basement.
With the limitations in size and rooms, I had all but abandoned my old plans and drawings with no hope for anything close to prototypical.

After reading the article, I sat down with the drawings and focused on 2 locations that I 'FOR SURE' wanted to model (if I could).

After about a day of drawing, I got them both to fit (barely) within the limits of the new space.
They aren't 'to scale' accurate, but they closely resemble the prototype.

First, Lockport Yard (which was almost to scale at the old house.)
To put things into perspective, the yard itself was about 16' long. (overall about 20')

Second Harrison Radiator (which was also close to scale)
... The Building complex was about 9' / 2' at the old house.

I'm quite happy with the results.. and have a good plan to move forward!!!.

He doesn't always get it right - I always thought filing soldering iron tips was a big no no: https://lancemindheim.com/about-us/soldering/

It is bad if you want the tip to last long time.  But that only applies to the better soldering irons which have nickel and iron plated copper tips for longevity.  Copper is for heat conduction, Iron for longevity, and Nickel for the solder to readily stick to.

The cheap pencil type irons (like the ones I used to buy at Radio Shack) had copper tips with just a very thin nickel plating which wore off quickly, at which point the soft copper was exposed to solder and flux. I used to sharpen those myself repeatedly when the copper was getting pitted.

I think it's still TBD, but I think @AlkemScaleModels is leaning towards the same weekend as Timonium again.

Loop me in on this, can you?
