PRR red tender decks ?

This may have been brought up before. A date when the PRR started painting the tender decks red as well as the cab roof which was a different red ?  Thank you.

At some point on new locomotives the FCC / black mix on the cab roof was dropped.  I believe this was with the last group of new M1s; at any rate, the duplexes and J1s had DGLE cab roofs.  After this point, it was catch as catch can with the older locomotives as to whether they got their cabs repainted FCC/black or DGLE all the way up to the end of steam.  After being out on the road, there was usually so much soot on the roofs that determining the paint underneath can be a challenge anyway even with good color photos.

Tender decks stayed FCC up to the end.

Thank you for that. I’ve noticed some models of the S1 are red tender decks and some are not. I never seen any with the cab roof red.
