UP has tried at least once in the last couple of decades.  Maybe twice.  They failed.  KCS is not going to get swallowed by the borg.  They make enough money on their own and are still the only railroad with direct service from Mexico to Canada. Plus according to Kiplinger's Cramer is only right 47% of the time.
