It's an aphorism from Ben Franklin: "Fish and visitors stink after three days."

Hmmm . . . Google properly translated that phrase as "Ryby i goście śmierdzą po trzech dniach."

Yes I think that’s more on target.... didn’t realize it was one of Ben’s pearls.

This is why it’s said never to swear except in your native language.

I agree. That is why when I meet someone who speaks language foreign to me, first think I ask for in the swears!   When I attended English second language classes in High School, I learned several swears in about half a dozen languages!  I still remember some of them.  :)

Sitting with the wife in the living room:
Me: "Man that would be sweet to have..."
Wife: "What?"
Me: "Ohhh, a locomotive.."
Wife: "Well get it.."
(Notice she didnt ask what it was or how much...)
Me: .... she would eff'n KILL me........ "Nahh..."
Wife: " By the way, you never told me what you wanted for anniversary..

Seems kinda risky... how can you be sure they told the the right words?  More so, sometimes words can sound very similar, so you could end up saying something quite different that what you thought.

Hey, we were all just a bunch teenagers barely speaking English, ripped out of our natural environment (and country).  We were like a family of foreigners in in the same class - we weren't about to be messing with each other.

But you are right -- trust no one!  Just like that American guy who trusted his tattooist to tattoo a Chinese symbol for "mother", but he really tattooed a Chinese symbol for "F-U".  :D  We are a bit paranoid?  Maybe just stick with your native tongue.  ;)

Anyway, all the dirty words I learned were correct (I verified them later), and I can even pronounce  them in Vietnamese.  :)
