The second run roadnames were
C&O
L&N
Boston & Maine
New Haven
MoPac
Indiana Harbor Belt

Each had two numbers, and there was an undec with ladder steps.

The Walthers stock numbers were 90013-90025

If you're not buying one of these roadnames, I'd stay away.

John C.

So John I have an undec with # 90012 is this just a first run loco or did they also do the undec in the second run??
I have never run it but was planning on selling it anyway. Is there anything else I should look for to be sure if it's
a first or second run. Need to know this before I go and sell it I guess.

Thanks, Jon

I seem to remember a large part of that old A board thread were dealing with the rather innovative ways Max found to add weight to the first run in an effort to decrease wheel slip, which seemed to be the major issue with the first run. I have a second run, and have no issues with it. Have not found time to add DCC but in tests it seemed to be a very nice slow puller.

Kind regards,
Bill
Well, a lot of it was indeed wheel slip (pulling power).  But I also did work on the drawbar, the quartering, and replacing the motor with various incarnations, including a 5-pole armature fitted into some other case that Victor Miranda wanted me to test.  I eventually settled on the stock motor with a 5.25:1 "Gizmoszone" gearhead (now defunct, unfortunately).   This made the top speed very low, about 15-20 mph, but that made it ideal for a switcher, and it sure could pull.

in so much as it is listed along with the others on this site (http://www.hobbylinc.com/prods/ubg_lip.htm) it would appear to be 2nd run based on the road names of the others

my bad

sincerely

It was also a second run 920-90020 NH.  But it arrived packaged poorly with the pilot and coupler snapped off. I have to fix that.

There was a 40 page (yes 40) thread on that 1st run in the old Atlas Forum, about 50% of which was arguing
and sniping, but a lot of it was honest experimentation and methods of fixing the engine (I like to think I contributed
to that half of it and not the sniping half).  But sadly, that forum's threads are all lost now.

I remember that thread!   It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title to this thread.    :scared:

Glad the manufacturer reached out to you Max.

after all it's new in the box and never ran before I go and sell it.  :|
