Well, didn't I stir up the pot by asking a simple question. I am a tad slow and just realized the Made in China comment. Thank you Kelley. Now, I actually do not give a damn where they are made, be it China, Germany, Czchec Republic or wherever as long as ESU stands behind their branded product, if faulty. I can say with out any hesitation that so far that has been the case. So I will continue to purchase their product until something much better comes along, and it will, regardless of whose brand name is on the item or manufacturing site.

Peace out,

Depending on the decoder, the Tsunami’s have several sound files, if we are talking about the Tsunami 2.
The watt rating is what is noted per the Soundtraxx information. On the ESU I  am not sure what the older Micro selects were because I don’t see it listed. If memory serves me , I recall Matt telling me that it was a 2 watt-driving a 4 ohm speaker.
The new Micro V5 says the amp is up to 3 watts, what up to means I have no idea. Driving speakers between 4 to 32 ohms.
I know from past experience I have tested both the Tsunami Micro and a ESU Micro select and using the same speaker and enclosure the volume in DB’s was higher with the Tsunami. This test was using a DB meter. If you want a DB meter there is an app for an smart phone you can down load and use.

I should note: I have not tested the new V5 micro yet. So I don’t know if the volume has improved.

How loud do you need and/or want the sound?
I most often want to reduce the volume on everything with the exception of the horn in most cases.

Ditto.  I've never ever run into a situation in which the ESU was not "loud enough."  In my installations, I typically have to turn all the sounds down from the default settings by 50%, except for the horn, which I leave alone.

Plus, most of the cell-phone-type flat speakers we use these days have a limit of 1 watt peak handling power, and some times it is lower, like 700mw.  ESU's 1-watt into 8 ohms (2 watts into 4 ohms) should be more than enough to overload most of these speakers.  So if it's not loud enough, there's something else going on.

Exactly. Looks like we are in agreement (see my Reply #14 in this thread).  :D
