I'm trying to lay out my steam engine servicing area. I'm using at least parts of the Walthers Cornerstone kits for now - the cinder conveyor and the 2-track coaling tower. Eventually (hopefully) they will get replaced with something closer to NKP practice - especially the coaling tower, which I really want to be a two-track FM round concrete tower.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out track-to-track spacing, and the Walthers instructions are no help at all. I know I could build the kits first and then figure it out, but I don't really want to do it that way. I'm hoping someone else already has and can share their experiences.
I'm guestimating 1.25" on the two coaling tracks (not the coal-dump that feeds it).
<edit> I'm trying to figure distance between the cinder dump and the loading track (to remove cinders) next to it. Looking at the under-track parts 1.75" spacing looks about right, but I'd like it a little closer. I guess that I should worry about clearance from the cinder dump tower to the gondola track. In this case, the tighter I can get it the better, so long as I can get a car and switcher by it. </edit>
<edit> after fiddling and mocking up I settled on 2 3/16" inches between tracks. I'll let you know how it works out
