A couple of questions for those in the know. What is the distance from the water to the top of the pier warf ?? it looks to be 6' to 10' in the distant images I have seen. Also, how choppy is the water between the piers so I know what type of ripples/chop I need to put on the surface??

The Delaware River isn't that rough usually - also unless the wind is from the direction of the pier, you will generally not get a lot of wave action ..  what you will see sometime is the the reflection of waves from the solid shore  -- so if you have incoming waves, then you will likely have a smaller wave outbound .. and thats also dependent on the angle the wave strikes the shore :0

It's been awhile as I have been at a new job and find myself working a lot during eves and weekends with my new projects. Can't complain since the company gave me full reign to make changes and a 45% increase making things much easier. I'll post a pic later of the engines I'm doing in the crew lounge.

I have still been building some new buildings and expanding the modules which I will have to update y'all. I have the Thanksgiving week off as well as the last week of the year. My goal is to get track down and turnout machines in place over the next 6 weeks. My question to the masses is if you had to do anything special when using switch machines such as Tortoises or Servos going through the base +2in of foam? I'm guessing here that I may need a larger dia hole or a slot for the wire movement to the points. About the music wire, will I need a different stiffer wire or possibly add a piece of brass tube over the wire to eliminate flexing?

when I use Tortoises in 2" foam, I replace the wire with slightly thicker "music wire" (I think it was .039").   That required carefully drilling out the hole on the Tortoise actuating lever (not difficult).   That said, the thicker wire will NOT work with Micro-Engineering turnouts - drilling a larger hole in the throwbar leads to breaking the throwbar more often than not.     No problem with Atlas code 55.

I've done the tortoise through 2" foam thing before. It's ok.

But looking back, what I'd do is go the bell crank route where the wire "rotates" instead of "sweeps". It makes all sorts of things easier.

Thanks. I am actually using Servos and Fast Tracks turnouts, but mentioned Tortoises since they are similar in concept and operation. As for the bellcrank method, I think it might be worth trying it out. Maybe worth looking at the RDS (Rotary Drive System) from RC Planes to direct drive the sweeper arm.

With the new job, progress has been limited. I have been working on some new buildings (DPM) that will go behind the Penn Warehouse & Safe Deposit as well as Durbin Paper from DPM Modulars.



I realized that when I built the actual modules, the sorting yard on module #1 was going to be too short with a train only being able to deliver 6 cars. So I built a 2ft module to extend #1 to 7ft long and now will be able to process a 14 car delivery. It will also allow me to add a scene that I had been trying to figure out if/where I could put it.

Hi All,

I have changed my mind (found a better one on Craigslist from Abby Normal) and will install lighting throughout the Delaware Ave layout. I have a batch of 2700K warm white 0603 sized LEDS inbound and want recommendations for magnet wire and a source. I'll use the magnet wire from a junction block between the feeders to the structure and the actual LEDS.

A related note is that I have also begun testing some 2700K COB lights that I can fade into while fading out the 5000K daylights. I did install a couple of PWM dimmers on both 5000K and 2700K strips. Not perfect as I can only get down to 8% lighting, but still pretty nice. I also obtained some RGB COB strips that I can create some sunset and dusk effects. Kinda liking this!

I have several new structures completed and in construction. I will try to get a better update going soon.
