TomyTec has announced a new series of basic sets in their 1:150 scale car collections.  Basic Sets O1 and O2 include three Suzukis and a Honda:

Suzuki Alto
Suzuki Hustler
Suzuki Jimny
Honda N-BOX Custom

The Suzuki Jimny was marketed as the Suzuki Samurai in North America.

I started doing a little research on the prototypes in these sets, and I discovered a 1:150 scale Suzuki Jimny should be about the same size as a 1:160 scale Suzuki Sidekick.

And, I really like the cover for the spare tire on the Jimny.  I followed a small Suzuki SUV on my way to work a few weeks ago with a very similar spare tire cover.

I am not sure if any of the other models might work as stand-ins for North American vehicles, but I will start exploring the possibilities.   ;)

A package with a TomyTec O1 Basic Set arrived in the mail this week.  While the models are indeed small, they are large enough to be "large compact or small mid-size" 1:160 scale vehicles.

The first photo has a Busch Mercedes ML Class SUV, a TomyTec Suzuki Jimny, and an Atlas Ford Explorer.

The next photo has a Busch Mercedes ML Class SUV, a TomyTec Suzuki Hustler, and an Atlas Ford Explorer.

The third photo has a Busch Mercedes ML Class SUV, a TomyTec Suzuki Alto, and an Atlas Ford Explorer.

The last photo has a Busch Mercedes ML Class SUV, a TomyTec Honda N-Box, and an Atlas Ford Explorer.

I am still not sure if any of the new TomyTec models will pass as stand-ins for vehicles that could be seen on the streets of North America.   :?

However, some have asked for "generic" vehicles, and these might qualify as "generic for North America".   ;)

All four models are licensed by the prototype vehicle manufacturer.  And in the typical TomyTec tradition; the injection molding is good, the painting and pad printed details are sharp, and the models look very nice!

I'd  say that the Honda Box is close enough  to the Scion or other  box/"toaster" models out there today. The Alto looks like a Chevy Geo or Aveo. They are all pretty  close to fitting in regardless.

I'm not sure if any of the "box" cars are taller than the Ford Explorer though.

I doubt it - My Scion xB was less than 6' tall.
I'm also bit taken aback by the size of the Suzuki Jimmy's wheels - it looks like it is donked compared to the other 1:160 vehicles.

Still, it is good to see the size comparison.

Well, maybe  this will be one of those cases of adapting vehicles  where you have place them strategically  so it's hard to tell if they are over or undersized.
