 :D

I'm just amused that Mike's willpower held up for nearly 3 1/2 hours.  :D

Ha!      :P

It was the surprise <$250 that clinched it. I've been fretting "I gotta do this eventually..." since it broke $300, so the angst has been going on for months. I was hoping to hold out for the next-gen higher resolution version, but the eBay deal was too good to pass up.

It didn't hurt one bit that Craig @CRudeME printing the "impossibles" for me was already a biiiiiiiig push in that direction.

Yeah, that hits me as a little strange, 'cause not only is it still $239 on eBay, the quantity available keeps going up in single increments rather than each sale depleting stock. IOW, 20% cheaper on eBay, and AnyCubic is the seller in both cases.

EDIT: OTOH, it's been discussed that Amazon's pricing can be dynamic and personalized. The price you see may not be what others see, it could be "tuned" if their tracking, internal and external, has determined that you're on the edge of inducement and just need a push, or you're shown a higher price because it's been determined you can either bear the cost (several possible inputs) or are just window shopping/price checking. Personally, when shopping I find little on Amazon that can't be had for a lot less on eBay or even B&M, so they've determined I'm a hopeless cause, evidently.

I clicked the link and it was the one I had already saved, but now it looks like it includes resin because before the title of the auction said something like "without resin" even though the stock pics showed resin.

damn.. I've wondered about these.    Anyone here used the resin printers? How messy can it get?   ;)

There's some serious craziness going on. Just looked, and found multiple "anycubic-official" listings at several price points, from the $239 I got - without resin, as surmised - and $249 and $279 with small amounts of unspecified resin, one with spare FEP film. Then there's "anycubic-store" doing an auction, currently at $1.50... who knows where that will end up.

I'll wait until it gets here before ordering resin. I did, however, buy a 4-gallon case of 99% iso that will arrive before the Photon does.  :shoulder-shrug:

Should mention there is a listing for spare vats at $43, so there's a relative bargain to be had there, too.

I just ordered another liter of Elegoo grey resin. It is a lot more watery than Anycubic resin and that is a good thing because when the head lifts up and down in the resin it will drain off quicker.

I order FEP film on a 4' roll.

If you don't like spray bombs you might not like the resin smell. It doesn't bother me at all though. Order gloves, a pack of Styrofoam plates, and some plastic scrapers from HD.

The aroma isn't a problem for me - it's Robyn with that objection. She'll have to get over it, plus there's a small industrial vent fan in the workshop waiting for the roundtuit to install. Gloves, check, disposable plates, check, plastic scrapers, check. But will add to stock on our next trip to Menards.

Thanks for the tip on the Elegoo. There is a hole in the bottom of those switchstand lanterns for the shaft that wants to fill-in. The artwork is adjusted but not tested yet, a thinner resin might help my cause a bit. Source on the FEP film? Mass quantities makes the FEP disposable rather than spending time and iso trying to get it clean. Enough commentary here about dirty or scratched FEP buggering prints is motivation enough.

Also, I already have a UV twisty-bulb in a reflector housing that should work well as a curing station.

Hmm. Any experience with "Dotbit" FEP pre-cut sheets? In 10X quantities it's $2.33/sheet, free shipping, where you get 14 sheets off of a 5' Flexvat roll, at $3.13/sheet (before shipping).

Also, it seems reasonable to have more than one vat, that it might speed up production or make color changes less of a hassle. Yes?

The roll is the only FEP I have used so far. But FEP is FEP. They also sell it at Grainger.

This says McMaster Carr is cheap:

What does color mater at all other than what color makes the best detail. You need to coat it anyways to keep the UV rays off.
