Track Bumpers

One good thing about this pandemic, I'm finally printing stuff .. I'm not doing big projects, but little details I need for the layout .. this file takes about 1.5 hours to print ..  I make them 12 at a time with light supports .. not too worried about orientation ..

I see that you aren't worried about orientation: you are holding your phone upside down!   :D
Bumpers look good (when I tilt my head).

Yes, thingiverse does have a good selection ..
I printed the track bumpers that I found there [non-lighted], and they printed pretty good, they were HO scale, and were designed to fit on the tracks themselves, not inside

And yellow ones too (on sale @ $14.98), so you can save on the paint as well as the printing!

Yeah, but then you don’t get to play with the 3D printer. 😀
If new to something, It’s often good to start on something more simple and at the same time still needed or useable to get the hang of things before going for a more complex item.
BTW those second set of bumpers look like a British style design.

Many modelers do not have the skill or te printer to "roll their own", so Walthers provided a good (albeit pricey) alternative.  But if you have the CAD skills and maybe even the 3D printer, then all the power to you.

Generally speaking Walthers prices (on all the items they carry) are quite outrageous. Some hobby shops offer discounts on Walthers items, and sometimes Walthers runs sales on their website.

All true -- but the Photon is a modeling tool, just like the Cricut, the MD5000 printer for decals, and all the other doo dads we have in our layout room .. I'm just sharing my excitement with this technology, because for the first time in a long time I have something useful to share here.  Granted, the models I'm printing now are the work of others, but I'm also learning to design some of my own stuff from their efforts .. as an added benefit, when I print whatever it is I'm doing, I can do a couple of extras for some of the asshats here just like you've printed decals for folks .. now, back to the basement to print some more stuff .. today, I'm working on printing more Jersey Barriers and going to print a railroad crossing ..

I'm glad to see your excitement and the fact that you are sharing your accomplishment here. But someone mentioned Walthers prices, so I (like any other self-respecting TRW member, went off-topic).  :)

John, I was not putting you down.  That is why I said that if you have the ability and means to print out 3D items, all the power to you. I understand that CAD is a skill one can learn, and a 3D printer is a tool.  But not every modeler has those.  I'm not arguing any of that.

For example, I am proficient in using Corel Draw and have an Alps printer.  I can easily produce decals with white undercoat, and metallic inks.  My other modeling tools which not everybody owns are Sherline lathe, and milling machine.  While many of the tasks that are suited for those 2 tools can be done other ways, having those 2 tools makes those tasks much easier to perform.

I hope to some day learn some CAD skills, and even purchase a 3D printer, but for now if I need some bumpers, I'll have to go to Walthers.  Well, unless I nicely ask someone like you to print some for me, hopefully for a fraction of the cost of Walthers bumpers.  :D

They look good John. Is that your own file? I'm just starting to try and work with 3D CAD. My Photon S printed the test wire cube OK. I've had mixed results with other prints. The Sherman tank bodies came out OK but the turrets failed twice so far.Trying different orientations and supports. I'll get it sooner or later. Another hobby in a hobby. :)
