Got an email from Trainworld this morning on the preorders for the N scale Atlas SD60E NS series - Honoring first responders, veterans, Go rail and the standard NS livery with dcc and sound options. Here's the link

I really hope they follow up with SD60I cabs and flexcoil trucks for their regular 50/60 line.

Does anyone know if these will use the same ESU sound decoder as the IM SD40-2?

I'm pretty sure that will be the case

The Atlas website mentions ESU, but not sure if it will be the same decoder as in the SD40-2.

"SOUND FUNCTIONALITY FEATURES (GOLD LOCOMOTIVES ONLY):

• Over 20 sound effects are available, including engine start-up and

shutdown, prime mover sounds through all eight notches, bell, air horn,

air compressor, dynamic brakes and more. There are up to 16 user-selectable

horns, 2 user-selectable bells, and 2 user-selectable synchronized brake

squeals. Equipped with ESU’s Exclusive “Full Throttle” features for ultimate

realism in prototype running."

Was really surprised to see that Atlas was going to do the NS SD60E with the Admiral cab... except for the Frankenstein brow it is the best looking cab around IMnotsoHO.  These rebuilds are quite unique in their detailing which includes a rebuilt/remanufactured 36" fan like what use to be used on F-units and early GPs and SDs above the central air intake grill, a feature I found to be very surprising in many ways.  More details and information can be gleaned from the Altas SD60E page...

It's 99.9% sure to be the same decoder that IM has in the SD40-2.  The 73199 OEM Select Direct Micro decoder.  All those features are standard in the LokSound firmware.

I missed this before, but on June 12th, Atlas posted a photo album on Facebook for the new SD60E locomotives.  No info along with the post but it can be assumed that these are painted pre-production samples.  So hopefully the actual locomotives won't be too much longer (as in years) in arriving.
