Looking for non-brass recommendations for modeling NYC Niagaras 4-8-4 & Mohawks 4-8-2. Any help would be great.

See PM about the Niagara...

Not sure on a Mohawk.. (Depends on which one you wanted to do..).. Some combination of Bachmann J and a stretched Con-Cor Hudson boiler and tender?

Agree with Nick on using the Bachmann J as a starting point for a Mohawk.  Specifically, my plan is to eventually use it for an L2B (along with the Hudson shell and tender).  It has been a few years since I compared the dimensions from "Steam Locomotives of the NYC Lines", but I seem to remember that the boilers of the L2B and J3 Hudsons are very close to the same size.  The main differences being dome sizes/placement and firebox grate size.  But I don't remember thinking that I'd have to stretch the Hudson shell.  I can double check on that later and let you know, if you don't have the dimensions.

There are at least  5 Niagara's  rolling around on Kato GS-4 mechs with my castings on them.  Here is one of mine.  FEF would be a better staring point now and then you will not have to track down the Athearn tenders frames like I had to do.

Jason just called, wanted me to put up these pics.
Con-Cor "Rail Baron" J3a that I removed the molded on hand rails, throttle linkage and replaced with brass as well as adding other brass hand rails.
Removed the small front stack and added one of my Worthington feed water heater castings.
I used one of Jason's PT-4 tender castings on a milled down Athearn Centipede tender chassis.

I think I posted this one quite a while back ?

I would say that the newborn takes priority over casting!  You should have some fun with the small-scale human!  :)
