@jagged ben  Which Kato part is it and where did you find it?  I only found a Kato underframe detail for SD80/90. would that fit the IM SD40-2?  thx, td

Look under SD40-2 mid production.  It comes with the fuel tank, but you could cut that off.

I have completed the rework on my new IM SD40-2 as per Chris's suggestion and boy does it make a difference to the look.
I used liquid styrene glue to attach the channel then painted the chassis grey to match the UP scheme.
Very happy with the result.
