Sounds restart after a short.

Hi Guys.

We all get shorts sometimes. BUT, N scale Athearn F45 & FP45s and Bachmann DDA40X locos with sound all fire up after a short. I have a Digitrax Zephyr used as a booster, on which I keep one of the loco addresses, so that one doesn't start up, but I have recently altered my diesel yard so all the tracks are alive, and if there is a problem, at least 6 locos all fire up.

I can't seem to find info from either Bachmann or Athearn to keep sound off, after a short, until F8 is switched on. Digitrax. BLI and Loksound stay silent.

Any help would be most appreciated, or I will have to put isolating sections in.

Cheers, Bob.

It's the Soundtraxx decoders in those units.  The DD40AX have a "sound value" decoder, that doesn't even implement the "quiet mode" CV113 (why I keep my K4 off the layout)

It looks like the Athearns do have that CV enabled, so if you put a value into CV113 other than 0 (the default), and no other functions are on, the loco will go silent in the number of seconds of the entered value

To follow up Rick's post.  The regular Soundtraxx decoders have a "quiet mode" that you program into CV113.  If you have a positive value in CV113, the decoder will go silent in the number of seconds corresponding to CV113's value AS LONG AS all the other functions are off and the throttle is at zero.  So if you enter a value of 1 in CV113 in your F45's, what will happen after a short is that the sound will come on for 1 second, then automatically mute, AS LONG AS you don't have any other function buttons on - e.g., the head light is off, etc.

As Rick points out, the SoundValue decoders in Bachmann's sound-equipped units do not implement CV113.  All you can do with those is select the engine, and press F8 to turn the sound off.  Or, better yet, strip out the Sound Value decoder and put in an ESU LokSound!

Thanks Guys.
I knew someone would have the answer. I will just leave the Bachmann "logged in" to the Zephyr.

Cheers, Bob.
