David,

do you have the permission from all the members of the board for this nice project ?   ;)

Didn't one of the last projects (injection molded shell) got cancelled after a big announcement because one member of the board (your dad) said no ?

I'd be in for a Rock Island version. That Red and yellow speed lettering is my second favorite livery.

Hehehe... well, that was a mistake on my part. I got a little excited and jumped the gun.  This model will be 3D printed or, if there's enough interest, resin cast. Injection tooling was going to be six grand per part, too much for a tiny startup like us. As long as die-casting, injection molding, and other huge setup costs aren't involved, we have the green light.

We will be sending out a survey soon via newsletter and forum asking who's in, and also what versions and roadnames are wanted.

Hi Everyone,

It's been an exciting weekend here, lots of 3D modeling. Here are some photos and a few explanations of the work that I have completed on the C415.

Below are images of the frame halves. basically it is an MP15DC frame lengthened to 28' with cab weights. The new shapeways alloy should be heavier than the existing frames, plus there is the material on the sides.

To make sure that the motor could drive the wheels, I made a new piece that slip-fits onto the flywheel. It can be made in plastic or steel depending on your preferences.

Last night I ordered two of the flywheel extensions and one of the frames. They should arrive in a week or two. Keep your fingers crossed!

David,  Nice work and great to see clever ideas being implemented to create new models.  I have no interest in this particular model, but I am watching your progress with interest.

Anyone remember the old Con Cor Foob centercab manufactured by KATO and still available in various Japanese versions. Not having access to one I wonder what the wheelbase and leingth is for the four axel version then a new Shapeways shell or a heavly modified KATO shell would be used. Nate Goodman (Nato).

I have no idea where the frames are now, but I have a bunch of those Kato DD-13s, mounted on Marklin chassis, as Nn3 diesels.  It took a lot of filing to narrow the Marklin frames, but the motor fits very nicely in the cab, and there's room for lead putty in the tops of the hoods.  The wheelbase is almost perfect, and the result looks like some type of export unit.

I was tempted to paint one for the SP&S, but it just didn't look that close to a C415...

Hi David,

What materials have you ordered the parts in?

I ordered the frame in steel, and the flywheels in WSF.

Bump, because I'd still deal with an FXD shell to go with the frames.
