Hey Guys,

First time posting weathering stuff here on this site. This project took about 8 hrs from start to finish.

That looks nice. Happy to see someone brave enough to share close up photos.  The colors look good; some of the marks are a little smeary but pretty good.

Thanks for the kind words. The Section will be in the NMRA show in Utah this year in November. I have 5 more cars to complete, and am debating on putting a couple on Ebay and seeing how they do. ExactRail still has some.

I made a short video of me applying the rust to the model. Sorry about my hand.

The fading technique used was True Color White paint thinned 1:1 with Acetone through an airbrush. I applied multiple coats over a couple hours until the desired effect was achieved. Then I sealed it with DullCoat. The Rust Technique was achieved with Acrylic paint, colors Burnt Sienna and then later applied Espresso.

Of coarse the bridge will be weathered, I just need to wait for the 100+ temps to go away so I can resume finishing that section for the show that is coming up. Good work on your bridge!! Prototype and actual BLMA kit photos were so hard to find online to get some idea of how to create it. I was able to find a section past Elko NV that had a concrete segment bridge so I could get some photos and inspiration for mine. Its a shame more people have not put of photos of the bridges they have completed.

The smearing came from me using powders...... On my next box cars there will be none of that. I have 5 more to do to complete my set. I really like how the blue faded into the color that it is now. The Grime and the rust just add to the color when finished. I just need to figure out how to create good rust streaks. Any tips?

I seem to remember basing the weathering and graffiti from a prototype photo, but I can't remember where I'd seen it. 

OH I have tips for rust streaks - but I'm currently documenting them as a chapter for my next book.  Hint: use oil paint.

Is this 1:87?  Thanks for posting this car. I think the overall fade looks pretty decent and I like what you're going for on the doors. From what I can see of the roof, it looks legit.
My call outs on this car would be that the rust spots etc look a bit out of scale and are too uniform in placement and not random enough.
It's hard to be deliberately random and reference to prototype flicks help.
I'd also go for more depth in the rust coloring and haling around the rust spots as some look more like black paint or ink spots than rust in some areas?
Maybe try a smaller brush on the next car you do.
Don't forget those ends could use some love too, your's look pretty clean. I hope you don't take my critique the wrong way.

Hey man thanks for the remarks. I take anything given as more practice so feel free to say anything.

This is HO scale, the Fade was really easy to figure out. I think I took 1 part paint and 1 part acetone. Just to clarify,when you say the spots are out of scale are you saying they are to big?
This was the first car that I have really tried the rust spots on so it is a work in progress. The ends are not complete yet, and am planning on adding some grime up the walls from the wheels.
I am not actually happy about the roof but I am at a loss of what to do next to improve it.
