Speaking of SW1200's...
« on: June 08, 2016, 01:43:52 PM »
+3
With the latest threads about the SW1200 here lately, I was finally motivated to finish my vid of an SW1200 / SW1500 pull-off.
Both these switchers have the same drive (mime with TCS decoders), but the SW1200 had some tungsten weight added to it.  Not really a fair fight...
I wanted to share here since Ray was kind enough to modify this little yard goat for me, and I think it deserves some xtra recognition.
Thanks goes to Ray Eiser, and to both Life Like and Micro Trains for producing these models.

Which is better? With added tungsten this isn't and shouldn't be a contest and really isn't fair saying it is.

I would sure like to be left alone for a few minutes with some of those sugar beet gondolas...

Not a fair contest at all - one of the competitors used performance-enhancing weight!  That is illegal you know! :D

Both look great and should do well working as a team. Is there not as much space in the SW1500 to add weight?

I would like to see it too. I have access to metal casting equipment so if it's a fit-in piece, maybe a master could be made and duplicated for fellow N scalers?

Jeff, you crack me up :D
First, you need a real scale so we can see just how much you're cheating... What's that nostalgic 70's springy thing, really?
Second, I knew Ray had talent in (boring) electronics, but this is great...send him my way...
Third, I want to see all those "live loads" spill the beans once again
Very cool my friend 8)

Thats the point, they are the same.  It would be boring watching a pull-off if we didnt give one of them some "enhancements" (Peteski)...   :D

Its Tungsten Putty... wherever it fits.

1st, Cheating?  Hey, I was careful to show the whole train starting from a stand-still...
2nd, In the video, I specifically referred to that as a tripple beam, not a "springy thing"!   LOL

Third, I want to see all those "live loads" spill the beans once again

3rd, IIRC, The last time that train had issues you were the engineer when it broke in two, and all 50 cars ran away (2 scale miles) down into K-falls Yard (without further incident).   :o   ...and I thought that was unintentional!

You guys are a hoot...  I love it!

Jeff, I was just trying to emulate the prior "incident"; do you still have caraway trees growing in the yard?  :D :D

If you are going to add tungsten, it would be more fun to see it out-pull a 2-8-8-2 or a C-636 or something.
Tom D.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Thats a good idea.... but I don't own anything like that.  How about an SD9 / SW1200 pull-off?

FWIW tungsten putty is lighter than lead.
