Has anybody used these decoders for N scale hood diesels?  If so, did they work out well?

I'm seeing these being much cheaper than 4 function decoders, but it looks like the size specs are considerably larger than, say, the DZ126.  Not sure it's worth the extra trouble if it's really hard to physically fit them under shells.  I gather the fuel tank location may work but I don't see that as a preferred choice.

For me the third function would be for either a gyralight or (non-flashing) ditch lights.

Actually when you strip the heat-shrink and unsolder the large connector, you end up with a decent-size decoder.   And if you are really handy with soldering very small SMD components I can show you how to even make a DZ125 or 126 into a 3-function decoder. Those are very small and inexpensive too.

Well, I don't know if I'll prove to be handy enough, but I'm at least wishing to hear about this.
