Odd but true Tender failure

Bachmann Second Generation (DCC Tender with knuckle coupler) Consolidation was cuffing around.  Suddenly it stopped.  She had derailed.  Initially I thought the truck came apart...then I noticed the wheel and axle.  Appears something got very hot!

Luckily I have a parts spare Connie from the same run.

After church  the iPhone caught a glimpse along the canyon....

                   I was running a Bachmann DCC 4-6-0 at a show last year suddenly it stopped dead, in picking it up a tender truck fell off in pieces. The locomotive somehow shorted out on a switch on a module it had ran through for a number of laps, it probably derailed on the switch, shorted out and traveled just enough distance on momentum to die, a bit away from the switch so I did not notice at first that was the cause. Yes replacement truck and pick up parts and it runs just fine, I' am now more careful to watch Bachmann DCC locomotives go through that switch when running on the Wasatch N Scale Layout at shows.                              Nate Goodman (Nato).

That looks exactly like the issue my Bachmann K4 had. I'm beginning to wonder if the pin under the cab that the tender drawbar connects to, is to long? If that pin some how touches an opposite polarity rail at a turnout, the leading tender truck would be the closes spot to short, since it connects electrically to that pin.  Just a theory, but now I'm glad I'm not alone in the melted tender truck syndrome
