If your into ebay you might check with these folks http://stores.ebay.com/That-Train-Place?_trksid=p4340.l2563

They are good people to deal with and they usually have quite a few KATO parts.

Unfortunately the SD70Ace trucks are prone to problems, I contacted KATO USA regarding obtaining some spares, I was advised there will be another run in 2016, hopefully along with spares.

Although the locos run great, the trucks with their very fine gears and centre wheel suspension have a tendency to fail with the slightest obstruction in a gear.

Although not difficult to pull apart to clean, they are a nightmare to get back together, I have had a 50-50 result of success dismantling cleaning and reassembling.

They sure run well when kept immaculately clean. But that is tough to achieve on an average layout with ballasted track.  Kato made those trucks a bit too delicate. I did a writeup on A-board about a simple fix to greatly reduce the amount of debris getting into the gears. Look for my post  towards the bottom of the page in this thread

I have spare gears. the mid sd40-2 trucks have the same gears and center tower. I just need the sd70ace truck even with bad gears. on the fix I was doing that long ago to all my engines. It helps keep hair out to.

peteski,

that article on Atlas Forum was excellent my friend. We can only thank you for such informative writing. Can you move that to a "Best Of" on TRW ?

Thank you Carl.  That thread is on the defunct Atlas Forum (not here) so moving it to the Best Of here would be rather difficult.  I suppose I could duplicate the post here but the other messages in that thread also have lots of  useful information.  I just hope that Atlas keeps their defunct forum online for all the modelers to browse - there is lots of really good info there.

Funny this tread pop up and Kato announces a new re-run for Q2 2016.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Do you have a link to the announcement? I haven't see it posted yet.

I may have the perfect thing for you if I can find it. My first ACE came with a truck that was missing gears. Kato sent another truck. If I can find the truck with missing gears, you can have it.

Did not forget about you. I have not come across it yet. Still looking. Meanwhile I have found a bunch of other stuff that I forgot I had. :)
