MDC/Athearn Berwick questions
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:01:18 PM »

Thanks to my quick trigger finger, I will have some extra ER X panel roofs soon. I am trying to figure out what to do with them when I remembered that the MDC Berwick's roof is incorrect. Looking at photos, the sides of the Berwick seem good, but the seperation of the end corrigations is a little off. Are there any other issues with the car?

Does anyone know where I can get accurate end corrigations?

I plan on getting some Berwicks on the cheap and replacing the roof. I hope to avoid having to repaint the whole model.

Everything is an issue about that car. It's an amalgam of features from several different cars.

Any luck fitting the ER roof to the MDC/Athearn body?

I ran across a factory-painted car in DT&I paint that I've already upgraded with a ESM Keystone u/f, but I'd like to replace the roof with a ER roof (diagonal panel for DT&I)

It's almost closer to Southern's early PS 5277's without the "waffles" and 6 posts on either side of the door opening if you remove the rivets from the end panels and reshape the sills.

The ends would still look like crap, but the separate doors on this model and the MDC PS would come in handy.

The project car is packed away right now. What I did was cut off the roof, File roof angles ever so slightly and the ER roof fit right on.

I still think many of the board members are too harsh on this model.

Here is a good 3/4 shout of the Athearn model:

(Note that the door comes in two varieties)

Here is what we often compare it to:

Differences include still, end corrugation placement door and roof.

BUT, that is just one phase of the prototype. Check out this CAGY version:

Sides are good including door and still placement (door track is mounted a few inches high but this happens on a lot of models). Ends are only off by one corrugation. The only major issue being the roof.

Thanks for confirming, I was hoping to salvage the factory paint

If the PS roof didn't already make it a half- :ashat:'d model, using the old MDC PS door rather than the correct Youngstown door that MDC previously offered certainly did the trick...
