Interesting to see they transitioned to blister packs for the trucks and not the hard cases like the others have been.  Wonder what drove that change?

I'll speculate that it was a licensing requirement by UPS: their logo is as big as the Trainworx logo on the card.  It would be less prominent on a jewel box.  It could also simply be a cost control measure.

I'm not at all surprised that the 53'ers sold out at MBK so quickly.  I hope my pre-order from FRT is on its way soon...

I am not Daniel, but the earliest photo I have been able to find of a confirmed UPS 53-ft trailer with the new logo and no skirts is 2/1/2006 (it was not on a railcar when photographed).  A lot of photos identify UPS trailers as a 53-ft, but without the 53' on the side of the trailer, it is hard to say for sure. 

I have a feeling they had the 53-ft trailers earlier, but the photographic evidence has been elusive.  Note:  UPS was still buying new 48-ft trailers long after almost everyone else had quit, and some photographers have identified those as 53-ft.

UPS also has acquired a lot of used trailers over the years, so some of those may have been 53-ft and got repainted with the new logo at an earlier date.

The Trainworx model is based on a Stoughton, and UPS began taking delivery of those (with the skirts) around 2011.

You are welcome!  I did find a photo with a couple of UPS 53-ft trailers in the old paint scheme on Hank's Truck Pictures.  They are about 1/4 the way down the page.  http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/df_ups_b4.htm 

The trailers were in Dodgeville WI on 2/5/2003, so they were definitely around before UPS started applying the new logos.  This is the same location of the photo of the UPS 53-ft trailer with the new logo taken 2006.

However, I still cannot verify they were in TOFC service.

Here are my three I ordered, all that was in box.  Front to back is single axle with Athearn Overnite piggy pack, tandem axle with Trainworx drop frame 40', and tandem with DigCom Designs 53' UPS Freight trailers.

Hi Carter - the info I have from Pat is that the 53' sheet and post trailer is a generic design based on Great Dane, Hyundai, Utility, Wabash etc so it is also probably good for Stoughton too (if that's what the UPS numbers represent). Anyway, I wouldn't limit your searches or research on just that builder....

I loathe to use the word generic but unless you're going to produce a distinctive composite side or fluted side reefer trailer than I think it's appropriate. And I still think there is demand for these other  styles in N as well.

Sorry for the misinformation, but I thought Pat had told me Stoughton was the prototype for 53-ft trailers.     I remember that at the time of the announcement last summer he emailed me a photo of a UPS Stoughton 28-ft pup after I had emailed him a photo of a UPS Great Dane 28-ft pup. 

I must have jumped to the wrong conclusion since all the photos of the UPS 53-ft trailers I found in the number series Pat was doing were the Stoughton prototypes.  My bad.   

But, I have no problem with a "somewhat generic" trailer that is good for a multitude of paint schemes!   

Also, the 28-ft Great Danes did not come with a pintle hook, and I am not sure if UPS ever added them.  The "story" can be found on this page about 2/3 the way down.  http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/df_ups_b4.htm

I sure appreciate it when they include the dates the photos were taken!
