The latest NTRAK newsletter has a review of the K4 and Berk. I was really surprised with just how poorly these reviews rated both models.   Not surprised by the performance but by the fact that those reviews were published.

So, now that it is "officially" in the NTRAK newsletter - we can go ahead and bash away! Or really, just continue the preemptive bashing which now became post-release bashing.   :)

That's news to me, Pete...  I was asked to review it for the N-Trak newsletter and I haven't even gotten my K4 yet.

k guys,

listen close.

every one of you is wrong about the double standard.

if we can be negative about a product
we are allowed to be negative at any point in the life of that product.

hands on has not one even little thing to do with it.
as an example lets discuss vapourware, and ten year old product promises.

I agree on vaporware insofar as when a company goes years and years without delivering on a product, it should fairly expect negative commentary.

But as for the rest of your assertion--that a product is fair game for bashing before it's been seen and tested in person--I could not possibly disagree more strongly.

Nope.  Not wrong.  It seems to me that the "life of that product" begins when it is released.  It is unfair (and may even cost the manufacturer sales) when people blast a product without first-hand knowledge.  If you go back through this thread, you will see little to no comments from me on the K4 and the Berkshire, because I own neither, nor have I operated either.  The only information I could possibly pass along would be hearsay, which is not necessarily based upon fact.  Therefore, I believe that it would be irresponsible of me to respond on that issue.

Discussing vaporware is generally complaints about the lack of a release, not to disparage the product itself (which, of course, by definition, doesn't exist).

... if asking a question is being pedantic, ok....

I wanted to point out that vapourware is a complaint of a product
it is negative.
and the one thing about it that means so much in this conversation is that you do not have a product in hand.

promising a loco in a year or so is the same thing.

davefoxx,
I can and will live with your inability to see why it is a double standard.

just positive comments are advertising.
and the posts are only allowed to be advertising until we have it in hand.

at which point the pt barnum rule applies.

if advertising is allowed(and it clearly is allowed...) then the opposite has to be allowed.

if we can bash a product, fairly or not,
then we are allowed to do that same at any point in the product's life.

we all know the status of the product.  If you had told me b-mann installed
ballbearings in the motor a month ago. I would not have believed you.

it is a product. it is advertised. say what you think. TRUTH has never been
a big requirement for any post here...

every one should be allowed the same level of out and out falsehoods.
what do you think advertising is anyway?

Wow, how I wish there was an ignore thread function.  These K4 threads are like getting a root canal.

I'd like to think we are entertaining.
I'd like to think we are informative.
I'd like to think we are truthful.

Guys, this is the second thread on this K4 that has been locked.  I'm getting tired about all this bullshitting for no good reason.

Actually, as predicted, Bachmann lives up to their reputation.  They keep on trying, but the same $hit happens again and again.

I just opened the link to the Sept / Oct 2015 NTRAK newsletter ..  there are two reviews of the 2-8-4 BERKSHIRE .. but I didn't see a word of K4 review in the newsletter --- am I missing one?
