Made some EP-3 progress yesterday also.  Fitted the latest main truck frames and pilot truck porch frames.  I ran out of 00-90 nuts so I couldn't attach the second pilot truck, but the installed pilot truck sits properly.  The main truck frames are now the proper length, but I need to narrow them by about .020" to both hold the copper pickups in place better and give a better appearance width-wise.  But I'm pleased so far with the progress.  It will be time soon to install the controller and attempt a track run.



That EP-3 is looking good. I always like the look of heavy electrics, and New Haven's are some of the most interesting. Makes me wish I had actually picked up that brass kit on eBay back when it was being discussed.

By the way, what prototypes are those Cabins in the background?

Is the EP-4 the electric similar in looks to the Milwaukee "Little Joe?" I would like to see one of those as well.

It's possible that the standard GG1 frame and guts can be used as-is for an EP-4.  Only the pilot truck frame has to be changed (other than the bodyshell).  I haven't explored it in great depth as of yet.  Yes, plans to do most of the NH electrics down the road, because it never will be made commercially.  But I want to get the EP-3 working first.  I do have the bodies designed already for both the EP-4 and EP-5, and I have a few Kato Gs stashed away for EP-3 and EP-4 mechanisms.  The -4 and -5 will be my next two to tackle, probably the -4 first.

They both are electrics that share the same streamlined look, but they really don't work as stand-ins for the other.

Yes.... well, the same guy wants me to do the EB in traditional colors. Pretty, but more complicated to do.

I like the Big Sky Blue, having seen a lot of it after Amtrak took over.  And none of the Great Dome Lounges were in orange and green by merger day, so that would be another problem for my BN.

That said, I have three of the things, orange/green, BSB, and BN.  I need another one, since Ocean View was painted in BN colors, but lettered GN.  And maybe an Amtrak version, which would give me almost as many as the GN had.

That was the late GN scheme, or an experimental one, no?  Kinda like what Burlington did with the late green box cars, where it had the block BURLINGTON with enough space for NORTHERN under it?

Experimental.  Similar to the early BN passenger scheme, but the white stripe went all the way to the roofline.  The GN did several such cars, apparently all different.  Ocean View had the name and herald at the end where the stripe turned down, like the BN scheme.  Dome coach 1320 had  the same wide stripe, but the name/herald were centered on the green.  Coach 1099 had the narrow BN stripe with the name/herald centered.  There may have been others I'm not aware of.
