I'm still working on a pair of blog posts from a trip to Philly last weekend, but here are two of my favorites:

Ed, What railroad is that?? They don't even have numbers on the number boards. I've always been a fan of the short lines. Both photos are very nice.

I bet the guy trying to turn left into the train was causing some issues.  Those are nice shots Ed.

It's technically just a switching service: Railserve (http://www.railserve.biz/).

They provide contract switching services for a chemical plant (that I promise, I'll post more photos of shortly).

I hadn't even noticed the lack of numbers, but that engine is amusingly numbered 1234.

Yep. It's funny, unless you know about it, you'd probably completely miss the fact that a train could show up there.

And thanks! I've got more coming, but these were two of my favorites and I wanted to show them off.

It was an unorthodox situation.

Aramingo and Orthodox in Port Richmond....new rail hotspot!

Were you up early enough to go to Syreneka's and get potato pancakes?

Who knew, right?

It actually kinda is. Behind me, in that photo, is the Conrail line that was in the other photo, across the river to Camden and you can see the NEC poles in the distance.

It's not always busy, but when it is, it's pretty cool.

Nope, but we did get to John's Roast Pork in South Philly (the entire point of the trip).

just to be sure
I think it would actually be Frankford neighborhood in the city
as it is west of I-95, by a few feet, and north of Port Richmond,
west of Bridesburg, and northeast of Kensington.

It's funny how that works out. There's a wedge shaped area (the one I grew up in, actually), that's between the NEC and I-95 that's not really Bridesburg, and not really Frankford. I feel like, culturally, it was more Bridesburg, but commercially, it was more Frankford, if that makes sense.
