That's gorgeous, Doug, both before and after. I have a couple of James' DD35s ... We're trying again with FXD, I hope to see them in about three weeks.

Will be very interested in seeing the new DD35 in FXD.  I've had good experiences "most of the time" with FUD but the finish seemed to always depend largely on orientation.  I hope the higher resolution process will minimize the fuzzyness/striping/corrugations.

If something is available in FUD, is it fair to say that it could be made in FXD as well?  There's a couple of skus I'm interested in that only list FUD as an option.

I'm too lazy at the moment to find the link, but we talked about the problem last week, I think. There's a glitch in Shapeways' system where existing FUD product is not automatically enabled for FXD. The designer has to re-upload the files for process verification. Some designers are reluctant to do this because it resets the product counter to zero, and they lose brownie points or something by doing that.

Anyway, you'll need to correspond with the designer about an FXD version of what you want.

Looks like I gotta get on the ball, and get my T24-66 painted and finished.....
Looks good man!

I finally got my Baldwind transfer unit done - just in time to bring to the PRRT&HS annual meeting this week.  Quite a nice model kit from James Norris and Shapeways.

Painting the FUD was a bit challenging - with some areas textured, the gloss DGLE appeared a mishmash of matte and gloss.  I brushed on Future before decaling and used plenty of Microscale red decal setting solution.  The decals settled nicely, but the model still had a variety of matte and gloss finishes.  But a rather heavy coast of satin acrylic finish evened everything out and made for a decent finish if not some anxiety getting there.

Doug, Thanks for posting the photos, looks great. I see you added your own grabs, nice. A couple of questions, in the unpainted photo, on the right side, above the headlight, appears something brass, what is that? And on the ends there appears to be extra brass parts, what are they and do you have a photo of the nose?

The brass part next to the headlight is a Trainphone receiver coil.  On the ends are brass handrails and a brass brake hose.

Doug.

I bought an old watch at a garage sale for 25 cents. Took it apart and this is what I found. I wanted to have static grass growing through the gears but my batteries were dead.

For a little perspective

I'm sure this has been done before, but I'm also sure there are some folks out there who have not seen this.

Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Very cool. I have done something similar (and I still have half a dozen of old wristwatches bought at a flea market) in my stash as a source of good looking small gears.  In my case I have added some gears to a Chooch scrap metal gondola load to give to add some visual interest.
