And adding to Max's eloquent reply (!) - In the US there would not likely be a crossbar over a man gate or access gate like that.  The vertical pole the hinges attach to would run up and have barbed wire attached.  The gate might have extenders with barbed wire.  But I've never seen a horizontal top piece.

I'll also agree with Max on this point - address the mesh issues and maybe fix this, and you'd have a hot selling product in the US.  even with your freight from the UK you price for 1100 linear feet of fence is way better then we can get here.

This.  I am in need of this very product at the length and cost you are specifying and would sell my secondborn (my firstborn is special needs and therefore priceless  !) for a finer mesh.  Likely two 1100 foot frets at least.

If the mesh was finer, I would buy a whole sheet.
You have the potential to corner the market on scale chain-link fence with a couple minor adjustments.

So where to start.  This was my first stainless etch and yes it could have been thinner in the mesh but I was testing the waters on what it could do, considering the other manufactures, I have seen, don’t half etch the actual mesh as I have.  Stainless is a so much stronger than brass it so it could take smaller parts.  However the originally concept was to make more mesh to mach what we had, which this does.  Although this is thinner and the mesh it self is etched to half thickness.  Making it available to others wasn’t the primary goal, but seemed a good idea. 

With etching the thickness of metal governs the width, for example with brass the width is 1.2 x the thickness, and with stainless it is 1.5 x the thickness.  Basically stainless has to be wider.

The actual space between the diagonals is 110mm, full scale that is.  I know my head won’t fit in that space.

Thanks for the info on the personnel gate. Yes most US manufactures do that but not all.  I worked in Oakland for four years and our factory yard backs onto the UP line, the chain link fence had a gate like mine in it.  The fence was old, the factory used to be the old jeep factory, but at some point they did make them like that.  I guess it is just down to different manufactures.  I will be doing more for this fencing I imagine, it has been popular so I can add the new type of gate in.

As to the print/etch run, yes it is in motion.  To change it now will mean making a new etch tool which would cost.  However, if you want it I can draw it.  If anybody wants to pay for the setup cost I will draw a finer mesh chain link fence set in what ever configuration you want.

I really appreciate you explaining the reason for the oversize chain link. The space between the diagonals that is (becuasae I realize that there are minimum width limitation based on the material thickness).   At least now I understand why someone would make their new design to be so out of scale (because you are matching another out of scale produce made by someone else).

I have several brands of N scale chain link fence and I'm planning on posting a photo comparison of all of them sometime next week.  That way you'll be able to see what is available out there and how close to scale they are.  I earlier said that BLMA seems to be closest to scale. But after I found a fret of TrainCat fence I now see that their fence is the best looking one.   It is also etched to half-thickness and the mesh is very fine.  BLMA fence has a fine grid but it is full thickness (not as lacy looking as the TrainCat fence).
