That is a nice crossing that would look really good with industry on the inside.

I've always been partial to this crossing and interchange between the former RF&P and the former C&O at Doswell, Virginia.  It includes a double-track (RF&P)/single-track (C&O) crossing, two connections between the lines, and a small yard.  It used to even have a freight office (gone), a passenger station (still standing at the crosssing), and even a ramp for trucks to load stone in to hopper cars.  Oh, and there's a tower!

Interesting ideas being presented here. I'll have to take some time to consider and play around with the design. I like the idea of the industry, and MC has commented on the need for them in the setup. It also creates a use for the module if it's being used cosmetically. On the other hand, I don't want to over commit myself. The last design exercise was in simplification. I'm hesitant to complicate it up again.

So, with a blank Free-moN module sitting idle in my basement and this thread sitting idle for nine months to the day, I thought it might be time to resurrect it.  I have to admit that I lost interest after all of the back and forth about industry/not industry, yard/no yard, more modules, etc.  After visiting a Silicon Valley Free-moN setup today at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, my interest has been rekindled.  I had the idea to restructure my module(s) back toward the original idea of recreating the Sacramento Northern underpass under the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.  Instead of trying to form an interchange between NTrack and Free-moN, I realized that the scene could form a single track/double track interchange.  After measuring my car's carrying capacity (to ensure Rule 0 compliance), I came up with this:



The two modules on the ends are 5' long.  The module in the center is the 4' module that I've already built.  This setup also gives me a launch point into the scene that I really want to do some day: the PRR crossing that replaced the SN car float over the Sacramento River, as it would be the next thing after the underpass.  This does mean committing to a bit more than the original Plain Ol' Four Footer with wings, but I don't think it's really that much more complex; it's just a little longer.

Glad you had fun, and glad your Pensy crap beauties could grace our layout  :D

The design looks pretty groovy.
I wonder if a wye turnout would help the curve on the left at the branch / main interchange.

And the module we already built might have to be the mirroring / pair of the middle section: given that the branch has to descend starting on the far left section, through the middle and on to the right, the middle section might be better built cookie-cutter rather than rasping/grading foam.

That right module will be at least 7 1/2" tall (as opposed to regular 6") as the lowered branch will need a 6" endplate under it.
Unless that module we already made becomes a section piece off of the branch, then you can cut the joining sections as low as you want (4 1/2" or ?).

Worse comes to worse, you can always just abandon it and flood it like it is today: https://goo.gl/maps/wCgSr

But I think we can make some Free-moN magic out of these modules!
