Maybe now we can get that EL SDP45 in N scale.  :D

How about we compromise and make it a GN SDP40?
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Notwithstanding the fact that I can find no, not one financial model that supports making a dollar for anyone at a market acceptable price for a GN SDP40, I am hereby reserving two.... and if it makes or breaks the project, three.........
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Athearn made an SDP40 years ago in HO.  Financially, it has one big advantage over the SDP45, as it can use the SD40/SD45 chassis.  In fact, it's relatively easy to kitbash one from Kato parts, starting with the SD45 frame and an SD40 shell.

That doesn't help Atlas much, but one can hope that Kato, or more likely an aftermarket shell maker, will try it someday.

The problems with the SDP45 are at least threefold.  First, they were rare, though not as rare as the SDP40.  Second, they came in two very distinct versions, so satisfying the three buyers' fans would require two different hood castings, not just detail changes.  And, as noted above, they need an entirely new chassis.

What I'd like to see is an SDP40F, which was sold in much larger numbers and used across the US.  But that also seems unlikely in the near future.

Paul, congratulations on your promotion and thank you for keeping an eye on the code 55 supply problem. How about a PRR K4. (I just couldn't resist)  :D

Thank you, everyone.  No, I did not marry into the position. ;-)

We've been working hard on getting the track supply issues resolved, and as that gets taken care of we'll be looking to expand our product line.  It might not go to 90% N scale though.

Then marry into the position. NOthing wrong with a 90% N family.

Congrats on the kick upstairs. It's deserved.

Now about that code 55 track that's rumored to exist..... All those neat cars and engines need something to run on.  :D

That was a response to me having a senior moment.
It was the previous CEO, Mr. Tom Haedrich, who married Atlas founder's daughter.

As far as N scale preference goes, I wonder if Paul is secretly into O scale trains....
