I like the forest of water towers. It is a nice example of an "I-Spy" kind of photo.

Best wishes, Dave

That is an awesome photograph. All the smoke/smog in the air also adds ambiance.

In case you guys don't know about it, if you are looking for old high resolution photos of all sort of subjects (including railroads), http://www.shorpy.com/ is the place!

Example:

Wow.
That's a lot of Walthers' kits
Great photo.
Hmm... how to make this into a Free-moN module with working swing bridge...

Mark Watson designed a 6-dome tanker based off a wine car.

And here's one in NY in the late '60s

An eye-catching car on an eye-popping scene!  8)

How about this?

The bridge in the foreground of the old photo is KinzieSt.

Best wishes, Dave

This is another interesting view: http://chicagopast.com/post/19788953919/more-information

I pieced together a Bing birdseye view of the same general area; it's very interesting to compare them. Note in particular the two buildings at the very bottom of the image, just left of center, in the historic view; they're still there in the modern view, but little else: http://whiteriverandnorthern.net/images/chicago_now.jpg

Obviously, this has got to be the prototype for spaghetti-bowl HO layouts everywhere, where every square inch shall have track on it. Incredible.

What? You didn't look two cars to the left and notice the wagontop? Very cool.
