One of the nice things that Atlas is doing these days is offering multiple variations on the new tooling when warranted, which means lots of good details can be harvested for other projects.  With the third release of the 1932 ARA boxcar, there will be seven variations available, all containing details that are useful elsewhere:

Body 1 - Long-Tab body, Murphy panel roof, 4/4 Dreadnaught ends (Oct 2008, Jun 2009, Nov 2010)
Body 2 - Long-Tab body, 11 panel flat riveted roof, flat/riveted ends (Oct 2008, Jun 2009)
Body 3 - Short-Tab body, Hutchins radial roof, 4/4 Dreadnaught ends (Nov 2010)
Body 4 - Short-Tab body, Viking corrugated roof, Buckeye ends  (Jun 2009)
Body 5 - Long-Tab body, 11 panel flat riveted roof, 4/4 Dreadnaught ends (Nov 2010)
Body 6 - Long-Tab body, Viking corrugated roof, 4/4 Dreadnaught ends (Nov 2010)
Body 7 - Long-Tab body, Murphy panel roof, flat/riveted ends (Nov 2010)

I looks like CGW and NdeM get to suck the bag on the 1932 cars otherwise I assume they would have tooled the right roof for the Soo car, but hopefully Atlas will lend this approach to future box car releases.

I'll have to go back and look for all the cars I have with 7/8 ends but from what I remember they were all too narrow to use with the 1932 cars.

Speaking of the Soo car, for anyone interested, it would make a great kitbash if you model the mid-60's.  Along with standard upgrades and reinforcements, they received new diagonal panel roofs.
