A friend of mine drives buses in that region. Apparently that tunnel can also be considered street running!
if you can't conduct yourself, conduct freight

These photos are of the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel (http://www.dot.state.ak.us/creg/whittiertunnel/index.shtml) that provides train and vehicle access to Whittier, AK. Check out the link for the virtual drive. Up until 2000, the only car access to Whittier was via flat car from Portage. This was a blast as you got to sit in your car during the 10 mile trip. Pressure from the tourism industry for more convenient access to Whittier and Prince William Sound lead to construction of the tunnel. Sad....

Whittier was built during WWII as a port to supply Alaska. The weather here is so bad/cloudy that they figured the Japanese would never be able to spot it from the air. This town provides the water/rail access for the Alaska Railroad to Prince Rupert, BC.

The town of Whittier is really nothing to look at (almost all the residents live in one large apartment building (ex-US Mil)

and the weather can be truly awful (about 500 inches of wet heavy snow every winter). But when the sun is out, Prince William Sound, is one of the more beautiful places on earth.

Best wishes, Dave

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
