BC RPM meet images from Trains 2009

I threw the following up on yahoo groups but figured some folks at railwire might be interested as well...  so here is my cut and paste message.


I have acquired a flickr account and posted some shots from Saturday's event. I was trying to jog my memory as to how many models were in attendance but I can't say firmly one way or the other. I think there were around 100 models with about the same number of modelers that displayed last year - I'll say a dozen or so. We did have a pretty good crowd in there mid day, due in  part to the big rise in registrants this year.

The plan was to also get shots of the PGE BCR SIG aisle and the PNR contest table in addition to the Saturday RPM meeting but I didn't quite manage to pull it off. The former expanded by several more tables than usual and the latter had the most quality and quantity I've seen in all the years I have attended. How ever they managed to get the word out it worked!

Just noticing from the photo that Phillip posted of that Conrail U23, the fading and weathering of the body look superb but the lack of any of the same on the trucks and fuel tank stand out to me.

I remember the model having really nicely done trucks - so the booboo is mine- I took the picture. I don't do technology well and cycled the photo through PS. I lightened it and hit the Autofix button since I had to process so many of them. In some of the other shots you can really tell because I ended up with a weird luminosity emitting from the tabletops and not all of it was because we got the plastic table cloths wrong side up. Bill Schaumburg  was there and got better pictures so it is possible that the correct exposure will end up in print.

BTW the model took first place at an IPMS show in its category. The modeler brought it along just to get some more of us out to the monthly meetings and make us believe that there really is a rail category available to us.
