I noticed with some of those paper textures the surface will only look good from one angle, the one that was used to take the original photo for the texture.  Have you noticed this as a problem?

I think that there is something missing when you view a 2D texture of a 3D surface in 3D (real life).  In photos, when the 3D viewing experience is converted back to 2D (the photo), I think everything looks awesome.

Here is a photo of a 2D texture.  To my eyes, this photo looks 3D.  But, when I view it on the layout,  it doesn't look quite 3D, but better than 2D (make sense?).

Makes perfect sense; and 2d is a poorer approximation of 3d in HO than in N.  But it still makes sense to use 2d in situations where it is a good approximation.

BTW, is the sky lighting in the original photo using your projection scheme?  It's very nice.

Totally. I think for model railroad photography the printed textures will do nicely if not better since its a 2D medium.

Can anyone comment on suitability of using one of these textures to "wrap" bridge piers?  Maybe use wood as the shape?  Seems easier than cutting and fitting resin chunks.

The problem is that most bridge piers (at least those I've seen) are tapered. This would preclude simply "wrapping" it with a texture paper; each side would need to be cut separately and applied such that the mortar lines matched. Still easier than cutting resin, but I think the effect of a good resin casting is worth the extra effort over the 2D effect of printed papers, particularly if the piers are near the foreground of the layout.

David, thanks for the quick reply!  I have several of the Pre-Size resin walls, and deep down I need to just "suck it up" and do it.  I am going to purchase some of these textures for background walls, however!
