The sizing and spacing in Fresno probably needs work.  While it's look good on paper, some those buildings and and streets are only 20' wide.  It would appear that all the building and streets in that area are undersized well beyond an acceptable compression level to convey a 'feeling' of an area.

A 4' x 6' or 5' x 5'?????

Great advice on "taping" the size/location of the layout on the floor. A lot of questions will be answered with a few hours taping.

I just pulled out about 20 older Kato SP's that I've had stored. SD40/45's and Dash 9's. Most need a service, with a few still NOS and the lube is a dry blob. That's old with no run time.

My plan is to weather the "aged" small logo SP's that had hadn't seen a paint shop or wash rack in years, along with fresher SP Speed Lettering.

Something really cool about a lashup of SP's.
A "western modeler" that also runs NS.

Agreed
that Fresno needs some attention.  Removing Fruit Ave. and enlarging the buildings could be a start.  Unfortunately every inch of duckunder added to upsize the buildings could make the layout harder on the operator.  None of us are getting any younger and the duckunder that is fine today may be difficult tomorrow...
