In this weeks episode of Cody's Office, Cody says that they had to paint out the logos on this car.  How come?  Sounds like the same rules that governed privately owned cars bearing product logos (billboard reefers).

That's right. The AAR forbids advertising of shippers' products on railroad owned or leased cars (cars in rr marks). Stone Container got by with 50 Abbeville-Grimes Rwy. boxcars a few years ago becuase it owned the railroad and several others, but agreed to not do any more cars. OTOH, I don't think Sargento owns the WSOR.

I got in hot water over this years ago. ITEL bought the Hartford & Slocomb and put a new shop on it. I went to the grand opening at which an HS car advertising the Dothan, AL, Chamber of Commerce was revealed. Came back to PSJ and promptly worked up an AN scheme for the Gulf County Chamber. The Railroad VP at the time asked the AAR for permission and was told NO!!! He then ratted on ITEL and they had to repaint their car.  >:(

Makes you wander about the Athearn cars and such, but since they're a model railroad based business, I think they get by...

Anyone have photos of the paint out?
