A break from photos of Montreal Tramways this week to post some photos taken by my daughter, Lisa Sonietz, of Flagg Coal Co. No. 75, a "vest-pocket" 0-4-0T that rides a flatbed trailer to visit various tourist lines. She visited the operation on the Florida Central out of Eustis last March.

Front end of FCCo 75. Even a small 0-4-0T is a pretty big machine.


No. 75 waits patiently for departure time while the engineer answers questions from my son-in-law on the right.


Time to go! FCCo 75 oozes steam from every pore.


Here's the usual power at Eustis, No. 101, a.k.a. "Herbie".


Next week, back to Montreal on August 5, 1956.

Gregg, it's funny you mention the size thing.

When I went with my dad to run PRR's 643 (a 1900ish vintage 0-6-0) two things occured to me.
1. This is a smaller steam locomotive
2. It's STILL really big!

Cool , the next time I go to Monroe , which is basically monthly , if I have time in the daylight I will try to get current shots . Its about the 2/3rds point on my trip there and right off the thruway with easy access . I was planning to revisit anyway .

Is the tower still up? I think it was braced from the rear to keep it standing...

This should be the Suffern station , follow the tracks north past the yard to the bridge I posted . I don't see a tower . Can you ? Is so direct me to it , and I will let you take shots on my next trip . EDIT Actually the station is a block south or so of this map .

Even that tiny Whitcomb I photographed was huge.  I'm 6'2", and standing on the walkway, the hood was a good ten-twelve inches over my head.
Unfortunately, it's now a bunch of toasters and razors.

I don't get out to railfan as much as I'd like lately, and it can be easy to forget big the things really are, when I spend most of my time looking at little scale models of the things. Must be even worse for you guys that scratchbuild steamers that are scarcely longer than a pair of quarters. I don't think I'd ever be able to do the crazy Z-scale stuff that David and Chris do! HO is a good size for me to work in.
