Fallen Flag cars in 1967

I am trying to compile a list possible railroads that would have had freight cars in interchange service in 1967.  is it possible that the 1960 EL and 1963 N&W consolidations were recent enough that fallen flag cars were still in service in 1967?

i'm sure there were plenty of Erie and DL&W cars running around into the early 1970's, but how many P&WV, Wabash, or Nickel Plate cars were still roaming given their numbers. 

so far my list contains 58 railroads that were Class I status in 1967, but i'm sure i can include up to 65 if there were recent fallen flags still in service.

For N&W: 1967? Absolutely - plenty of Wab and NKP, not so much P&WV.

For N&W: 1970s? Still ample NKP and Wab boxes, NKP hoppers. P&WV little if any.

I have actual data on the hoppers (as does Robb) if that is of interest.

As an aside some VGN hoppers survived in VGN paint into the 90s.

thanks - i have been watching a DVD set of PRR in 1967-68 trying to spot the various roadnames as the trains pass.  there were some cool logos and paint schemes running around back then...

Dont forget Lehigh and New England too...A few Erie and DL&W cars made it all the way to Conrail...

I can recall driving home from the office along Earhart Blvd. in New Orleans in the early 1970's and seeing a Pere Marquette boxcar on the IC local switch run that looked like it had been painted last year rather than before 1947, when the C&O fully absorbed the PM.

No need to compile a list, just buy a copy of an Offical Railway Equipment Register for a quarter in the year you're interested in. Many are now available as a CD.

I don't know how much May, 1965 on the CGW will help, but it's all I got.

There may be other roads in the same situation you could include from the midwest like L&M and MSTL.

No need to compile a list, just buy a copy of an Offical Railway Equipment Register for a quarter in the year you're interested in. Many are now available as a CD.

  ORERs are really handy, but they still don't tell you which specific road numbers were in operation, if you like that sort of thing.

BTW, my comments above are based on what I saw then.

To which I'll add that I certainly saw plenty of Lackawanna and Erie stuff in the late 1960s (this being on the N&W).
