Can someone explain to me how you get the pipes out of these box cars?

They were stationary pipes designed to be used by the customer on the siding. The beauty of this was that customers could arrange for stationary pipe implementation at just about any available siding. For unknown reasons this never caught on, and ultimately the service was discontinued, and one end of the boxcar was removed in order to un-install the stationary piping. The timing was good though - this process was folded into the running board removal rebuild program, which was just getting under way.

Same way they went in the car.  Spread the sides and pull off the body.  Afterall, that's how the prototype loaded pipes in boxcars, right?

Joe's a really nice guy and all, but most of these loads he creates are pure fantasy.  Must have been all the years working at Disney.

Don't get me started on the second release of the drop bottom gon that has a pulpwood load in it. Gee, why did they make drop bottom gons in the first place?

  Is there something wrong with the pulpwod load?  I need my DB gons with a load of scrap metal, so fingers crossed.

For the most part, in their later years, drop bottom gons were used for whatever could fit in them, i.e. Pulpwood and/or scrap. But, why do you think someone constructed a drop bottom gon in the first place?
