New tooling GP30 from Atlas.

Those number boards stick out as way too skinny, not nearly tall enough. Makes the entire back look odd. Its hard to judge how wide it is by eye since the number boards are off so much, at least that's my 2 cents on the issue.

Standard issue for Kato EMD hood models and Atlas/Kato EMD of that era.

Well, it looks like the phI dies may have been modified.  The recess for the dynamic fan still has the falsies/fillets, I'm not sure which is correct for what phase.  Perhaps they faked the sub-base and handrails by using a GP35 set for the "Fireman's" side, conductors rode in the caboose back then, as the deities intended.  ;D

I suppose it's to the good, as I have 5 that were to be painted for the Reading.  Of course, it'll be at least a year before parts are available. 

As to other B&O GP30 wrecks:  6961 was lead engine on a NY bound freight which came thru RK interlocking on the CNJ and hit a standing CNJ freight (1969).  Sheared the caboose in half lengthwise and the Geep wound up taking out the tower.

The deities intended to have firemen on diesels?  Seems to me the deities would have left the firemen on steam engines, as the modern railroads also figured out that Firemen were superfluous on diesels.

It didn't have anything to do with deities...  It was the labor unions and regulators who like things the way they were in the 1890's...

labor union is almost = to deity.  they once wielded some serious power.  imagine how much less profits there would be if we still had 5 man train crews.  or all those brakemen riding cars.  ask any CSX engineer - he'd love to have a fireman to hold the loose fitting or to keep his finger on the check valve while they sped along.
