How do YOU weather a flatcar?

OK, this time it's a car that is only on my roster because Chuck sent me a freebie. I don't usually model flatcars and only have two out of a roster of over 300 cars. But, I had to at least attempt to load and weather it. The deck is brush painted with Floquil Instant Weathering, and then chalks from both Micro-Marks Browns and Grays sets were used.



Now, let's see how you've managed to weather any kind of flatcar, TOFC included. C'mon some of you weathering geniuses, share your knowledge here, please.

Whassup?  56 reads in 4 days and no one else ever weathered a flatcar?     C'mon now, please share your efforts.

OK.  Here you go!

This is a factory pinted DI/GHQ flat with acrylic washes and drybrushing. The deck was painted grey and dusted with chalk.  Some sand was sprinkled on top and it has a few pieces of lumber left over from securing the last load.

A little late.  Catching up and taking a breath before the next workfest.

An old Atlas model.  Lowered, painted & decaled for a specific EL prototype.  Pretty close.  Dry brushed the deck with dirty white and removed some of it with a cloth.  Repeat until it looked right.  Air brush dusted sides, truck and deck to even things up.  Then used chalks to highlight the deck and give it some color.
