Hey all I'm weathering up some HO rolling stock and have a roof question for those in the know.

Does anybody have a clue as the colour of these cars roofs? Were they yellow? black? or galvanized and left unpainted.Or possibly galvanized then painted?

Oh yeah,I've also got some N scale Railboxes ready for the dirt box so can use the info on them too.

The rare batch may have been painted yellow; the majority were bare galvanized steel. With bare roofs, keep in mind they wouldn't bother to mask it properly, so a certain amount of overspray occurs.

Also it seems the ones with the yellow roofs were "newer paint scheme" RBOXes-they seem to have came both ways. I don't recall seeing an
"older scheme" car with a yellow roof.

Keep in mind also as time has taken it's toll, the galvanized roofs weathered
to a nasty grayish hue. Not to mention the heavy rust that's also formed on
a lot in a haphazard manner.

Unless it was a brand spankin' new paint job, I wouldn't concern myself with overspray. Those roofs take
a beating and overspray disappears rather quickly due to exposure or covered by rust and grime.
Other than that, I think Mitch covered it rather well. Post us a pic when you are done. :)
