Humboldt Industrial - an Inglenook based switching layout

while i regroup and develop the future Crestwood Industrial Park layout, i've decided to build a small Inglenook based layout.  i setup the Inglenook on my workbench to JFRTM and that lit a fire to build a 1x4 shelf layout.  this will be a layout in the spirit of, giving the Inglenook a location and time, inspired by the Reading and Northern's Humboldt Industrial Park near Hazelton, PA.

i've had a productive few days

i had some materials on hand and came up with a quick concept for the shelf construction with a backdrop

the benchwork is made up of 1x3" clear pine and 1/4" luan.  here the frame is being assembled

the top has been secured with brass screws and ready for sanding.

sanded and ready for cork to be glued down after the trackwork is finalized.

i'll post updates as they happen

before i headed out for a weekend of camping, i fiddled with the track to make the inglenook less switching puzzle and more prototype.

there are 3 industries with space for 12 cars. it can be operated prototypically using car cards and a staging cassette or as an inglenook using dice to determine the final arrangement of 5 cars.
