The 3/4 dome appeared at least once in Amtrak's Empire Builder, although it had been repainted when I saw it.  For a generic early Amtrak version, no reason it couldn't still be in SP paint.

This is a cool consist.  Here's my suggestions for N scale matches:

Train # 49  Broadway Limited    New York - Chicago

power   4896-4939  GG1 into Harrisburg
power   4274-4311  E8    from Harrisburg
bag       9114  (Lightweight Baggage, Railsmith ex-Walthers smoothside baggage in NYC all-gray dip)
sleeper  Toronto Harbor   10-6 (Slab Side Budd 10-6 sleeper, Penn Central, Use Kato UP Budd Sleeper, and if you're feeling the urge of the ZenMaster, sand fluting off below windows to simulate the slab side)
sleeper  Penn Rapids       10-6  (I don't recognize this car name, but assuming it is a P-S Rapids series PRR sleeper,  Kato is a good option)
sleeper  Bucks County     10-6 (Great fluted sleeper for the Florida trains, Railsmith has done it with purple letterboard, but it's probably in silver for the era)
sleeper  Alexander M Byers  10-6 (Ex-Raritan Rapids, so another Kato smoothside Rapids series 10-6 renamed.)
sleeper  Woodland Stream    6 bed lounge (From Kato Broadway Ltd set)
diner       4564  (Penn Central ex-NYC Budd Diner, Railsmith has a fluted diner stand in for the NYC Budd diners.  Or maybe cut some skirts on a Kato CZ diner)
coach     3000   ex UP  (Kato in PC Stillwater green)
coach     3005   ex UP  (ditto)

Hi Ian,

I just stumbled on this photo archive a few days ago at: https://www.pnrarchive.org/Lists/Dan%20Perkins%20Slide%20Collection/AllItems.aspx . There's about 2400 Northwest centric photos from the early 70's, many of them showing the post merger Empire Builder and what a mish mash of Road names it was, for the first year or so no BN cascade Green paint at all. Almost anything you can throw together could be correct.

the 6 bedroom lounges were Falls series - not Stream series...
Uncle Kato has never released a Falls series car... but there was a Special Run made

and if you happen to be looking for one you can find it here https://executiverail.com/models or PM me

This morning I was looking up car names on the Passenger car photo archive, and some are ex NYC and ex NH cars.
I'm curious if those ex UP cars were in service before being painted green.. (i.e. Yellow patched)

Woodland Stream is an ex NYC Budd 6 bedroom lounge car, but the Catalpa Falls would be a great substitute, that is available.

correct - Stream's are NYC - Falls are PRR

both are awesome and similar layouts... with a small difference in the A end lounge as well as the mid car door to make loading the kitchen a little easier.

Good call on the lounge, gents.  Per the original post to get close, not perfect, I felt it the best option in available cars to mention.

https://www.amazon.com/Zephyrs-Chiefs-Other-Orphans-Amtrak/dp/B0006WTC1K

The book above is the Bible for early Amtrak modeling. Has consists for all the trains, not just in terms of "2 ATSF High Level transition coaches were in daily service on the Lone Star" but in actual car numbers assigned to each train set used to cover a train- so actual numbers for each one of the four pairs of coaches in use. So for example, for a while Amtrak used 3 ex CZ dome obs on the Lone Star, and the 4th obs was the ex NYC Wingate Brook.

I'm not sure how many ACL cars would have been in these trains, but K4 Decals just released a lot of ACL decals for the all silver cars with black lettering, the ACL silver with purple schemes, and lots of Pennsylvania sets for various trains. Check ebay, but they are a little cheaper on K4's website.

The BN Empire Builder looked very much like the GN Empire Builder of 1969:  Mostly Big Sky Blue, some GN Cascade Green and White, and a few Orange and Green.  A few BN-lettered cars did appear, mostly CB&Q-owned cars formerly in GN paint.  The BN never made many changes, as Amtrak took over a little more than a year later.

Likewise, the NP trains I saw in Pasco didn't change much until Amtrak.

I second this.  But you can't have my copy.  :P

A couple of interesting 'model-able' cars.

Using a Rowa Coach

I was thinking about modeling the NYC baggage car using a Kato smooth side baggage as a base model with some styrene strips added.

I've got some Rowa Slumbercoaches that I can repaint to NYC

The Kato Budd cars I have with full skirting I'll probably re-letter to CBQ (They are currently Pennsylvania)..
And I have some Kato Budd Baggage cars and 72' Coaches that I'm not sure what to do with.

It looks like NYC had similar cars that would have transferred to PC.

Also I found a GN Blue coach of a similar style.
