Ed- I absolutely agree. A significant prototype in telling the intermodal story. When my real job got too busy to continue deLuxe and I 'sold' it to Dave, somehow shrtly after the transfer major portions of tooling were lost when he chose to move it to China. Unfortunately, the Twinstack, which was essentially a flat kit to preserve the interior detail, was one of the tools that disappeared. The weights in the set were copper that was "pot chromed" to make sure they were magnetically inert. jagged ben is spot on regarding the material. George
Thanks for the history George! The TwinStacks are great.I just came across the LoPac 2000...https://www.trovestar.com/generic/index.php?Collection=4&Body_Style=DLX-CNC-LOPACany idea if the tooling still exists from the original Interail?
You're supposed to get the money when you sell something! LOL
The tooling for that car has a long and convoluted history. The car body was with one vendor, the detail parts were with grandt line, and have now disappeared, and etched parts were with a supplier that has since gone out of business. When David took over deLuxe, he had the obligation to take care of Paul and Interrail, and I know that didn't happen, so realistically, The vendor still 'owns' the carbody dies, as there was an argument between the vendor and the buyer over an obligation that stretched back to Interrail that was never resolved. It is an important enough prototype that it should be redone by someone else. Given that the railroads need as many 40' wells as they can get, most of the LoPacs are still in high readiness and use.George (one of two founders of deLuxe)
Thanks for the history George. That sounds like the parts are so spread apart, it would take a miracle to get all of the pieces going again.Did deLuxe produce more than the 4 that show on TroveStar?https://www.trovestar.com/generic/index.php?Collection=4&Body_Style=DLX-CNC-LOPACA fellow on Trainboard looks like he might have one or more of each ever produced by Interail. TroveStar doesn't have any Interail entries yet. (Attachment Link)
