My last can of dull coat did this to a model. No idea why it stopped the side,  as the ends and other side are fine.

What are people using as a replacement now, as there is none to be found at my LHS.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I just purchased thee cans of Dullcoat -- yes it's still available including on-line and at my local Hobby Shop (Hobby Smith in Portland, OR).  It is a bit pricy and therefore you'll see suggestions of alternate brands from various Railwire talented modelers.

Concerning the whiting on your RBOX car; if you overspray it with a fresh new Dullcoat, the whiting will disappear. (Sometimes you can use a stiff brush to remove it also.)

Yes, the white stuff looks like the flattenign agent (talc?) didn't quite disperse evenly enough in the liquid part of the Dullcote.

Or, since this was the remains of paint in the can I suspect that throughout the use the can was not shaken vigorously enough to always disperse all the flattening agent in the liquid, so over time too much accumulated in the can.

Another Dull Coat quirk - if you spray it when the ambient humidity is high it can fog up like this.  Another coat (when it isn't so humid) will fix it.

Gotta love the Railwire, where even an old dog can learn new tricks every day... :)

I've actually gotten some pretty good weathering, especially for covered hoppers, using this effect.  High humidity is common in my area, and combined with summer heat, makes this relatively common.  It would actually be nice to if i could do it predictably!

And, as George says, another coat on a dry day will fix it.

Thread drift alert!!!

Nice little shop, very friendly guys...  Went in there a few times while visiting my son who lived there until recently.  On an earlier visit, I found something in there shop that I wanted, but wasn't sure I needed.  Realized after getting back home that I did in fact NEED it, so I gave them a call.  They were happy to take my CC info and ship the item to me.

My son was telling me they've had a few break ins lately...  It sucks that this happens to these guys.  Hope they can stick it out and get through this nonsense.
