Glad to see the N scale S-2 back in production- and I think I will bite the bullet, if I can find the bucks. For those who have Atlas sound equipped locos- which sound decoder does Atlas use in N scale?  It is probably listed somewhere in the catalog, but I did not find it when I while I was looking through earlier.  Also, if you happen to be at the train show- any indication from Atlas on WHEN these might be delivered?

Everything that has sound to this point has been ESU.  That changed with the SD45 announcement where Soundtraxx is being used.

As for release, they just updated their production page, everything in this catalog showing 2nd/3rd quarter 2024

Glad to see more Atlas releases.  8)

I keep expecting and hoping that Atlas will begin updating the "Master" series freight cars that still have truck mounted couplers to body mounted couplers.

I’d love to see a new release of Top Gons with body mounts.

Without https, think of it as anyone/everyone could potentially see what you submit, so make sure that you never send send sensitive info (eg credentials, CC numbers, personal info, etc) over http.

You potentially could be exchanging info with someone other than Atlas.

This is an outdated and risky way to think of it.   https exists for good reasons, not just because some folks felt paranoid.

While that is all true about encrypted communication, in this specific case no personal or sensitive info is being exchanged to be snooped on.  The http host is just making the PDF file of Atlas  catalog for downloads.  To me that is perfectly Kosher way to use http (and Atlas must think so too).
But of course you or someone will quickly point out to me that it is just not cool to *EVER* use http for anything anymore.  Whatever . . .

It is completely unfair of them to tease me with a KCS GP40-2W in HO . . . . .

Nope, that's the actual link.

(Attachment Link)

Jason
In that case, both work. The https link I posted also works. AND, as I said, is the link the Atlas had posted, at least, the https one is the one I see on their page.

Unfortunately announcements don’t run very well on my layout!

Don't got any use for the locos or the 11,000 gallon tankers in their HO offerings. The rest of those HO freight cars are good though. I like that they got the boxcars with the high reporting marks.

Interestingly, the decoder manufacturer isn't mentioned in the info for this new run of S2's (it is for the Dash-8's), and they say the Silver series can be upgraded to sound with the addition of a decoder. So, unless Atlas is offering the OEM board for purchase, did they change decoder vendors for this run of the S2, or maybe opt for a standard ESU plug-in decoder, so they're not hamstrung by an OEM board? Previous runs didn't really have an upgrade path to sound from non-sound versions.

I'm a bit confused about the sound decoder also. I own two custom painted "partial zebra" S2's (thanks @SP-Wolf) with the factory ESU's but I may splurge on another S2, in full zebra if available. Anyone here know when the ATSF full zebra scheme was introduced on the S2's?
Thanks, Otto K.

I would be surprised if the S2 decoder was  the same old ESU decoder.  That was LokSound V4 and I believe ESU stated the reason stopping production of V4 was unavailability of the microcontroller chip used on those decoders.
