@Dave V  , Which grade of paper did you choose for your backdrop ? I'm leaning towards their mid or high grade paper ......Mike

I ordered from LARC…..it was unacceptable. Weird colors. I contacted them and the sent a replacement no questions asked. New one was a home run.

Where'd you get the source images?

Do it. I did the low-grade and it was so glossy at first I thought it was unusable. But after enough passes of Krylon spray matte finish to gas a small village, I was able to knock it flat. But go with one of the other grades!

I was able to get more scenery work done around the Cornwall Bridge scene.  There are more progress photos and info in my Layout Engineering Report.

I am still messing around with the Comgrow ROBO CNC with 5W laser attachment. This is a quick and simple N-scale model of the shed/workshop that I am build in my backyard, cut from 2-ply (.036” thick) mat board. On the next iteration, I will add scribed siding, and building and window trim to the drawing in Inkscape. I think I will model the door in a closed position, marked by a scribed line, and then add door trim to highlight its location. The roof will get scribed asphalt shingles. Enjoy!

I have always been curious... Do laser cutters cut at angles other than 90 degrees?

Wow, you guys are getting some stunning background and scenery results.  I’ve certainly needed the inspiration to get back to my project backlog, and TRW always provides!

On the topic of that project backlog, I grabbed the three cars that have been cluttering my desk and got to work on them.  All are MDC/Piko hopper cars, and each needed to be lowered, get knuckle couplers installed, and then have those couplers shortened to a reasonable coupling distance.  I still need to weather each car, but that’ll be another day’s project.

I’m hoping to survey for adding a raised bed garden that will double as the other turnaround loop for the outdoor railroad in the next couple weeks.  Hopefully I can get some of my rolling stock projects done before then!

Craig:  Rutherford Creek and the glulam span look great in those photos!  Well done.

I have finished applying decals to three more of my Van Iron woodchip cars:

Just before meeting Ed and Dr. Dave yesterday, I bought an expansion set of Lionel FastTrack at the Strasburg Train Shop, to add to my daughter’s existing O scale Polar Express set.  Now, we can buy another LionChief train.  BUY ALL THE TRAINS!  :D

Shh, there might could be room for further expansion.

Thanks . That helps a lot !  I think the mid grade should work OK since it is repositionable... and flat :D ...Mike

Not that I now of currently. I have seen multi-axis plasma cutters though, so I’m sure it could be done.

I, too, haven’t heard of any that do so but I don’t think it’d be very difficult to set up… supposedly one of the new lasers at the fab lab (maker space) in town has a lathe style accessory that should allow better work on round objects but the end result will still feature the laser at 90 degrees to the surface it is marking. Biggest challenged to an angled laser would be determining the focal length.

Tim

Thank you Tim. This is the first time I’m photographed it outdoors. It sure show off the details.
